UNFILTERED CREATIVITY AND STYLISH FAILURES WITH NO QUEDA TINTE

Marina Salazar, the creative mind behind No Queda Tinte, is clear about it: 'as Buzz Lightyear said, you don't fail, you fall with style.' With her energy and passion, Marina was the protagonist of the second episode of the third season of FRACASO®️ on May 30th at Raima's rooftop in Barcelona.

Since childhood, Marina showed her inclination towards design. 'I wasn't the most popular, but I was the designer,' she confessed. 'I designed the membership cards, so without me, there was no group.' For her, design started as a game and fortunately, it still is.

Today, her career has evolved into being an 'official pongo hacker,' transforming those kitsch figures from our grandmothers into contemporary objects full of social critique. 'I buy pongos, empower them, and turn them back into objects of desire,' she explained.

MORE THAN A DESIGNER

In her talk, Marina described her current state as a 'total extremist' with three jobs: freelance designer, university professor and PhD student, and artist as a hobby. Undoubtedly, a packed schedule that doesn't prevent her from always being ready for new challenges: 'I'm at a place where I say yes to everything.' This proactive attitude allows her to accept creative challenges and continually expand her limits.

Marina also spoke about her obsession with maintaining an unrecognizable aesthetic on her Instagram feed. 'I start to see objects not as they are and put on glasses with trained filters that allow me to see other realities,' she commented. And it's precisely this unique vision that makes her work stand out and connect with the audience in such a special way.

DESIGN TO COMMUNICATE AND TRANSFORM

For Marina, design is not just a communication tool but also a way to change the world.

"Design is a communication tool, but we can also change things, not just meet needs"

This is reflected in her approach to democratizing art: she wants her message to reach every home, regardless of economic status. In this regard, she highlighted words from a workshop worker that left an impression on her: 'you're my favorite artist because I understand you.'

For Marina, being a 'message transmitter' is crucial, and hearing that her art is accessible and understandable to everyone is the greatest compliment.

INSPIRATION FOR THE FUTURE

Throughout the talk, Marina left us with several valuable reflections and pieces of advice: 'Don't let something you believe in stay in a drawer' and 'say yes to everything.' She encouraged us to believe in our projects until the end and to be proactive when we believe something can work. 'It's very interesting to allow creative challenges to come in and push us beyond our limits,' she said, reminding us of the importance of accepting challenges and learning from them.

With this thought-provoking failure, we close another inspiring episode of the third season. But this continues, and soon we will announce the speaker for the next FRACASO®️ taking place on June 20th at Sala Equis in Madrid. Follow us on social media so you don't miss more failures!
